On June 20, during the visit of New Zealand Prime Minister Rt Hon Christopher Luxon to China, Prof. Zhou Zhijun, Party Secretary of Beijing Film Academy, and Prof. Sun Lijun, former Vice President of the Academy, were invited to attend the official welcome event held at the New Zealand Embassy in Beijing.

At the event, Secretary Zhou Zhijun and Professor Sun Lijun New Zealand Prime Minister Mr. Laxon , and attended the launching ceremony of “New Zealand becomes the guest country of honor at the 2025 China International Education Conference”. They also had in-depth exchanges with Professor Nick Smith, President of Victoria University of Wellington, New Zealand, on promoting cooperation between Chinese and New Zealand universities in talent training, academic exchanges, and curriculum co-construction. President Smith said that he looks forward to visiting our school in October this year to promote the establishment of a closer cooperation mechanism between the two sides.

In-depth exchanges were conducted with Prof. Nic Smith, Vice-Chancellor of Victoria University of Wellington, on cooperation in curriculum co-construction and other aspects. Prof. Smith said that he looks forward to visiting Beijing Film Academy in October this year to promote the establishment of a closer cooperation mechanism between the two schools.

Our school has maintained a stable and friendly cooperative relationship with New Zealand universities and cultural institutions for a long time. Especially in the field of animation and digital creativity, our school has established a good cooperation mechanism with Victoria University of Wellington, and continues to promote teacher-student exchanges and project cooperation. In 2024, the two sides officially launched the international exchange student program, marking a new stage in the cooperation between the two schools. At the same time, our School of Animation and New Zealand Weta Studio have carried out multi-dimensional exchanges and cooperation in character design, visual effects, virtual production and other directions. The two sides have established a continuous online and offline interaction mechanism, and organized special lectures, practical projects and teaching seminars around the integration of artistic creativity and technology to promote the integrated development of Chinese and foreign art education.
The Academy has maintained long-standing friendly cooperative relationships with New Zealand universities and cultural institutions. The two sides have established a continuous online and offline interaction mechanism, and organized special lectures, practical projects and educational seminars around the combination of artistic creativity and technology, to promote the integrated development of Chinese and foreign arts education.

This event further consolidated the cooperation foundation between our school and the New Zealand government and educational institutions, and built a new platform for expanding China-New Zealand film education and cultural exchanges. In the future, our school will continue to deepen strategic cooperation with New Zealand in the fields of film and television education, science and technology, art, and student exchanges, continue to improve the level of internationalization of education, and serve the national cultural communication strategy.
Attending this event further strengthened the foundation of cooperation between our Academy and the New Zealand government and its higher educational institutions, building new platforms for the expansion of film education and cultural exchanges between China and New Zealand. In the future, Beijing Film Academy will continue to deepen its strategic cooperation with New Zealand in the fields of film and television education, technology and art, student exchange, etc., further improve the quality of international education, and fulfill the national cultural communication strategic goals.
